William G. Cobb
Bill Cobb, a fourth generation Nevadan, graduated from the University of Nevada (B.S., 1971) and from Lewis and Clark College (J.D., 1974). Mr. Cobb was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1974 and the State Bar of California (inactive) in 1975. He was a Deputy District Attorney with the Washoe County District Attorney's Office from 1974 to 1977, and has been in private practice with Erickson, Thorpe & Swainston since 1977. Mr. Cobb is a member of the Nevada Association of Defense Counsel for which he served as its President in 1982-1983; and the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada, for which he served as a member of its Board of Directors from 1983 through 1987. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, International Association of Defense Counsel, the America Board of Trial Advocates, the Trial Attorneys of America, and the American Inns of Court, for which he served as President (Bruce R. Thompson Chapter, 1996-1997). He was Nevada's Lawyer Delegate (1982-1992; Chair, 1991) to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. He has received an "AV" rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and is listed in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Attorney's, The Best Lawyers in America (Nevada, Litigation, and ADR) and Nevada Super Lawyers. Mr. Cobb also provides services in ADR/Mediation. He is a Nevada State Supreme Court Settlement Judge (1998-) and has completed the Advanced Mediation and Training Program of the ABA section of Dispute Resolution and the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. He has also completed the National Judicial College, Grant Sawyer Center For Justice Studies, Mediation Program (2003) and the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law, Mediation Program (2006). Mr. Cobb is a member of the Association of Attorney-Mediators. He also has been appointed as a Judge Pro Tempore of the Nevada Short Trial Program. Selected publications authored by Mr. Cobb include Malpractice Claims Against "Providers of Health Care" Following Nevada's 2004 Initiative Petition ADC Defense Comment; Spring 2008; Vol. 23 No. 1 and Defending the Informed Consent Case, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Counsel Journal, Vol. 72, No. 4 (2005). He was the Nevada editor of the IADC's Business Litigation Committee's publication, "National and International Exemplary/Punitive Damages Survey and Essays (2006)."
